Hello everyone, my name is Kelly Wiens.
I have been a resident of Moose Jaw, SK for the past 54 years. I have been happily married for 30 years this year. I worked for CPR for some 25 years.
I recently replaced the German shepherd I lost a while ago with a new GS puppy. She is a lot of fun and keeps me laughing as she is growing fast at about one pound per day… She is going to be big.
About 1 1/2 years ago I fell in love with photography. Wildlife, macro and landscape are my favorite topics to explore. I enjoy hunting, fishing, gardening and the Moose Jaw Warriors.
My 30 year membership in the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation is probably why I love pictures of animals, birds and insects.
Macro Photography to me is the unseen world for the naked eye. I love exploring the area of macro, it keeps me experimenting with new ways to capture a common flower, the way the pollen rests on the stamen. With my interest in gardening I am able to share a different view not many people see. I use a variety of methods and equipment, including flash, reflectors and selected macro lenses. My favorite lenses are the Sigma 105 mm f2.8 OS and the Sigma 180mm f3.5 macro . I also use AF macro tubes and macro extension bellows. I keep in mind that I don’t need dedicated macro lenses, some great shots come from lots of other lenses and a set of less expensive macro tubes to get higher magnification on a low budget. As far as lighting goes I prefer bright sun and overcast conditions alike. I use both AV and manual settings. My message to fellow photographers: “Keep your finger on the trigger because you never know what can happen in macro photography.”
Thank you, Kelly! We can see how passionate you are about photography! Can’t wait to see more of your work.
Loved your write-up and photos Kelly.
