If you were unable to attend the Moose Jaw Camera Club’s First Annual Retreat you missed a great time. Our venue was St. Peter’s Abbey in Muenster, our instructor John Perret came from Saskatoon.
Here are a few images to share our busy weekend with sunrise and sunset shoots, time in the classroom with Photoshop and a tour of the Abbey.
We gathered on Friday afternoon and were soon on our way to explore the Abbey.
From the root cellar 17′ under ground and all dug by hand a hundred years ago… we soon took the elevator to the highest look out point at the top of the glass elevator.
Immediately after dinner we made our way to explore the surrounding fields to get as much of the sunset as the fast moving clouds allowed…
…followed by an excursion of the Abbey’s farm yard.
Rusty machinery to chickens and rooster…
A face only a mother can love…
…and architectural lines and textures – this farm had something for everyone.
Saturday morning started at 4 am. A quick cup of coffee and we were off to capture the dramatic sunrise.
Followed by thunder and lighting in the distance.
With rain and overcast skies we didn’t mind the time in the classroom. John had a full agenda and by the end of the day we were ready for another sunset shoot after dinner.
But first we stopped into St. Peter’s Cathedral, erected in 1910 with paintings by Berthold Imhoff.
The clouds were constantly changing and were soon gathered by the side of the gravel road north and west of the Abbey.
The storm chasers in the group were watching the clouds carefully!
But all ended well with a blood red sun setting in the west.
Sunday morning’s sunset shoot with the same enthusiastic group…
…but bundled up to keep the chill out!
Kneeling along the roadside (in the mud) we managed to avoid the strong breeze and manage a few macro morning dew shots.
We had plenty of time before breakfast and visited St. Gregor, just east of Muenster.
When the weather is not so great and the sun is hiding behind the clouds one can always find a church and a graveyard to explore…
A little tired from the early mornings we forgot to make a group photo… sorry!
