Thank you to the 36 members who came out on a chilly May evening to support the camera club in its activities and welcoming the new executive. Welcome to the two new members who joined last night. We are now up to 64 paid members and growing!
Here is what happened last night:
Members rose to the challenge of supplying images of Silhouettes – we were treated to an amazing line up of images from the local landscape, Hawaii, and Arizona.
Images for “Encounters with Nature” were accepted by Rob Harden for printing. The Opening Reception is set for June 13th from 5:30 pm to 7 pm at Carol’s Cafe & Catering. This exhibition will hang till mid-September at which time it will be replaced by the Festival of Words submissions.
Retreat Registration Update: We have 6 registrations and will need 8 to ensure we break even. Please visit the Retreat page on this website for details and the registration form. We have extended the registration deadline to May 15th. Contact Vaughn Taylor, our treasurer, if you plan to attend this year’s event in Wood Mountain.
Our newly formed special interest groups for Nikon, Canon, Pentax and point and shoot owners will continue throughout the summer: The next gathering is on May 21st (long weekend) – 2- 4 pm in various coffeeshops. (Cannon meets at Common, Nikon/Pentax meet at Mitsu, bridge/point-and-shoot owners meet at Crysalis). No registration required. This is not a workshop but an opportunity to gather and chat camera, settings, and photography in general.
Jerry Stevens and Rob Harden are exploring opportunities with Moose Jaw Tourism. Stay tuned for more info for members about the possibility to exhibit and sell from this exciting venue..
The Miksang Workshop with John McQuade is fully subscribed for the May 6th & 7th weekend. Please note: John is presenting a lecture about Shambhala, the mother-discipline from which Miksang originates. This lecture takes place on Sunday night! Interested members, their friends and family are welcome. The lecture is free.
Our last official club outing is scheduled on June 24th/25th. We plan to go to the Sandhills near Leader, SK. More information is forthcoming at the June meeting and on the Outing page on this website.
The club is purchasing additional frames for FoW. Please remember, submissions for the Festival of Words exhibition are due at the next meeting, June 5th.
Scholarships were awarded by Member-at-Large Tami Dirkson. A number of applications were received and the Executive is encouraging the membership to apply again next year. The lucky recipients for 2017 are Vaughn Taylor and Anna Hergert who are putting their award money toward their formal Miksang Level 1 teacher training.
The May meeting each years marks election night for the next Executive. Thank you to the committed members who are accepting the challenge to lead the club from September 2017 through June 2018.
Introducing the 2017/18 Executive:
President: Jeff Shilling
Past President: Anna Hergert
Vice President: Murray Rimmer
Secretary: Colleen Raes
Treasurer: Kevin Pritchard
Membership: Myrna Forge
Member-at-Large: Wanda Hudson (we have room for at least one more person to join Wanda – with our growing club it is vital to have more members step forward and vounteer. Members-at-large act primarily as liaison between the general membership and the Executive)

Exhibitions: Rob Harden plus committee
Refreshments were served following the confirmation of the new Executive. This was everyone’s opportunity to mingle with the new Executive to express objectives for the next club year. Thank you to Brenda Halstead for looking after refreshments.
After the Break Jeff Shilling and Rob Harden presented the Hands-on-Activity:
Setting Custom White Balance in your Camera. Here is the PDF about White Balance Jeff created for everyone as a reference. Feel free to download and print your own copy.
The meeting was concluded with the review of the Saturday Challenge images. We had 8 members with 24 images participate. Thanks to everyone for coming out last Saturday and for sharing their selected images last night!
